Course Title: Introduction To Cupping For Bodyworkers

Course Description: Cupping Therapy is a valuable technique for bodyworkers. The class will introduce types of cupping, care of therapeutic cups, and regional uses of cups. Simple cupping patterns for commonly treated pain patterns and conditions will be covered. A foundation will be laid for an advanced series of cupping classes.
Detailed Description: Safe use of cupping is paramount and students will be carefully monitored in practice sessions. Instructors will demonstrate a technique and then supervise students performing the technique on each other. Vacuum pump cups will be used in class. Other types of cups, such as flexible silicone and glass fire cups, will be described so student are familiar with a range of cupping tools. Common patterns will include lower back pain, neck & shoulder pain, hip pain, insomnia, anxiety, common cold and headache.
Purpose: Participants will learn to use safe cupping as an adjunct therapy in their bodywork sessions.
Intent: Participants will become comfortable with cupping therapy, understand when to employ the technique, and be able to integrate it into the work they do.
Students will demonstrate proficiency with therapeutic cupping techniques.
Students will be confident in employing the learned techniques in their practices.
Students will give a brief description of the history of cupping.
Students will list precautions to take when cupping.
Students will demonstrate ability to use the appropriate pattern for low back pain.
Students will demonstrate ability to us the appropriate pattern for neck pain.
Students will demonstrate ability to us the appropriate pattern for upper back pain.
Students will demonstrate knowledge of acupressure points that enhance each of the cupping patterns learned.
